When do I need to tune my accordion?

Sometimes the only way to have correct size reeds is to make them yourself.

Accordion tuning and how accordions are keeping their tune is very interesting subject. How much valves are opening, what materials are used, temperature and used preasure – all these are related to tuning. If you want to keep your accordion in good tune, the mechanisms and materials needs to be in perfect condition. Wax is not allowed to have cracks and vents are needed to be working perfectly. Possible problems have to be fixed before tuning. In profesional use, accordions should be checked every year, in amateur use every 3-5 year.

Every accordion is unique when it comes to tuning. Some accordions are keeping their tuning very good, some are not. How well is your instrument keeping the tune? That can be found out only by tuning. Before starting the job, I check all accordions very carefully and you will have an estimate of how much the cost is going to be. The evaluation is free from costs.

The tuning prices goes along with the amount of reeds. Less reeds, less job, less time and money used. If compared the accordion’s reed amount to the piano strings, there is a huge difference. In normal “adult” size accordion there are 488 reeds to be tuned. In piano, there are approximately 230 strings. Accordion tuning takes from one day up to one week to do.
